Your Global Versatile Identity are the different identities you have in the real World…or the Internet. You can be a teacher, a father, a friend, a brother-in-law, a movie addict, a football player, a blogger, a user, a developer, a consumer, a son, a colleague, a supplier, a English speaker, a French speaker, a Spanish speaker a Madonna fan or a classic piano music player, all at the same time.
Your identities are local: in your country, your family, your work…but thanks to the Internet and your life abroad (if you have ever had one), your identities are also Global.
Usually you understand your local identities, but not your global ones. To better understand your global You, you need to become someone else, just for a second: imagine you are from another country and you want to find information - whatever the reason - about someone who is You.Go into Google (in English) and google your name and first name. Look at the results. You exist through your comments, your profiles, your avatars, and they are available to the world to see. Maybe you don’t exist on the web, then you are a webanonymous.
Then, think about you when you speak a foreign language, when you are on holidays or for work abroad: you try to mimic the local people, the local accent, the local habits. By trying to be more local (to this country) you are making your identity more Global.
After taking into account your local and global identities, ask yourself a question: Am I able to control my identities?
You can control your behaviour at work or at home, but you can’t control Google results, your bad accent or your lack of foreign habits and culture. So, to better understand your Global identities, which are more and more important in this even more global World, you have to work on your Internet fingerprints, your foreign languages and foreign culture knowledge.
To control your Internet identity, you can use tools such as Linkedin or Ziki, which are business networking and identities promotion websites.
Find your place in the Global World, understand your Global Versatile Identity.
