All the ways lead to Rome…please…it is not true! Yes, I can say that today, because all the ways lead to London! London is the best served destination in the world, no fewer than eight airports use the words London Airport in their name!
So, to get into London you can take:
- The plane
- The train
- The boat
From Europe and the world, the best solution is the plane. You have cheap flights that deserve London Luton Airport for example, but be aware that if you want to travel into central London, you will have to add a bus ticket to your budget. BA (British Airways) flights deserve London Heatrow, and you can go to central London in 35 minutes with the tube (Jubilee Line), it is the cheapest way, or in 15 minutes thanks to the Heatrow Express train, that costs ~£20 (~30 €)…
Travelling time: ~50 minutes.
From closer Europe countries (France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Dutchland…), a good solution can be the Eurostar. If you take your ticket in advance, you can pay your trip from Paris 60 € (one way). Note that you can book your ticket only 3 months and 28 days in advance.
You can also have bargain prices during special calendar dates (Christmas, Easter…), or if you take your ticket at the last minute.
For example, during Christmas I bought a return trip Paris==>London==>Paris for 50 €, and during April I also bought a return trip, but for 60 €.
Sometimes you have interesting temporary sales where you can buy tickets for extremely interesting prices, for example the last deal was 2 return trips for 60 €!! Note that those operations are different in the English version of the site and in other languages…so don’t hesitate to check every language!
Furthermore, I noticed that in some conditions (if you book at the last minute), the price of a higher class ticket is cheaper than the lowest class…so be careful when you book your tickets!
If your train is more than 60 minutes late, you can be refunded according to the terms & conditions. I will explain how to make the best of the Eurostar website in a future post, so stay tuned! ![]()
Travelling time: ~2h40 minutes.
The last option is the ferry. You can take a boat with or without your car and sail through the English Channel from Calais to Dover. I tried one of the companies from where you can book tickets: it’s SeaFrance.
If you book your tickets in advance, you can just pay £80 (120 €) with your car. When travelling with a Ferry you will more enjoy your trip than by train or by plane, especially if you have a beautiful weather.
Travelling time: ~1h30 minutes.
I’ve tried all those solutions and according to me, the Eurostar train is the best way to go into London because the service is reliable, very friendly and you will arrive directly in central London. Furthermore, if you are a frequent traveller, you can subscribe to the Eurostar Frequent Traveller program for free and you will earn points that will unlock fantastic gifts! I will tell you more when I’ll release the Eurostar traveller guide ![]()
