English Proverb of the Week (#1)

Categories:

Today I inaugurate a new series of weekly posts: English Proverb of the Week.
Each day I will choose one English proverb, and I will try to explain from a French point of view. Here is the first English Proverb of the Week:

A Friend in need is a Friend indeed.

It means that a truly genuine friend will support you even in the worst moments. There is no equivalent in French. As a French I like it because it is a true sentence and it is like poetry.

In French we don’t have such a good sentence but people are used to say that, in other words: “We find our true friends when we are in dire straits”.
